King’s Spanish Cup: Quarterfinals
Quarter-finals have finished in the second most important tournament in spanish basketball: King’s Cup.
And they have finished with one great surprise: Iurbentia Bilbao Básket, a team which has been until this season one of the “medium” teams, has won AXA Barcelona in the court in which the tournament is being celebrated: Fernando Buesa Arena.
This are the results of the first four matches of the tournament:
- TAU CERÁMICA 78-71 UNICAJA MÁLAGA
- IURBENTIA BB 70-69 AXA BARCELONA
- DKV JOVENTUT 84-59 PAMESA VALENCIA
- REAL MADRID 73-60 AKASVAYU GIRONA
TAU Cerámica started well in the tournament, winning Unicaja in a very complicated match for the local team, because we have to remember that Vitoria organises the tournament this year. The player Gabe Muoneke was decissive because in the last two minutes, the game was 65-64, and this man made 5 points and received 1 foul.
In the second game, Iurbentia Bilbao Básket won the game against last year champion: AXA Barcelona. The basque team played well, during all the match, with 10 points advantages. But the nerves came and AXA Barcelona took advantage of the situation to put the scoreboard in 68-66. Finally, Iurbentia won the match.
Easy, very easy was the third match, in which DKV Joventut won Pamesa Valencia. The game was decided after the first 10 minutes period, and the advantage was preserved during the whole game. Best player of the game was Rudy Fernández, a serius candidate to arrive in NBA next season.
And the last match in which Real Madrid won Akasvayu Girona, led by a big Louis Bullock with 20 points and two rebounds. The match did not have history. Akasvayu started well, with 11 point-advantages, but Real Madrid engine started to operate, and finally, Girona recognised that Real Madrid is stronger than them.
